WHY BRISK WALKING BEATS CHICKEN BROTH

At this point, you may be wondering how you are supposed to exercise when you are coming down with a severe cold. Or how you can become totally relaxed and attain a positive, optimistic and hopeful attitude while suffering from a miserable viral infection. Or why you may be asked to chew carrot sticks and sip a rich onion soup liberally garnished with garlic and cayenne pepper instead of more traditional foods such as chicken broth.

You may discover that some of the most cherished cold remedies of the recent past have been exposed as weak and often ineffective. Carrot sticks, for example, supply much needed vitamin A which is essential to the integrity of cells in the nasal air passages as well as to immunocompetence. Likewise, onion soup laced with garlic and cayenne pepper has been found a more effective cold remedy than the traditional chicken broth.

Fats of all types have been identified with low immunocompetence while fresh fruits and vegetables supply nutritional support sorely needed by an overburdened immune system.

Exercise boosts immunocompetence, clears the nasal passages and reduces discomfort from cold symptoms. So, if you feel up to it, a brisk thirty-to-sixty minute walk can do far more for your cold than sitting in front of a TV set. (Obviously, you cannot exercise if you have a fever or if you feel too fatigued.) And both Deep Relaxation and Positivism are easily learned in a matter of minutes while lying in bed.

It is true that you may achieve good results with vitamin C or with zinc gluconate tablets alone. But you can invariably achieve far more satisfactory results in half the time by using a Whole Person approach.
